About Sumi-e
Sumi-e painting is a Japanese monochrome ink painting style that uses black ink, a brush, and paper to capture the essence of subjects, emphasizing simplicity, spontaneity, and the beauty of white space, deeply rooted in Zen Buddhist traditions and Chinese calligraphy.
This workshop is an introduction to the principles of Japanese Sumi-e painting, in a small group. Each participant will create their own Sumi-e painting, with assistance from Ken.
Basic materials will be provided for the day, plus extra supplies available for purchase like paper, ink and brushes. Morning tea will be provided.
Prior experience or skills are not needed.
